For some reason Canadians have a strong affinity for both Florida and Arizona.
Everyone from West of Ontario seems to desire property in Arizona and all those who reside East of the Ontario/Manitoba border seem to fancy Florida. I suppose after suffering through a 4 month winter with temperatures as low as -40's, anyplace that far south would seem attractive.
Most Canadians are looking for an inexpensive getaway. Many who spend winters in Arizona are used to even staying in travel trailers for the winter months. After suffering through years of a terrible exchange rate, Canadians have learned to think of the US market as expensive. When it used to cost us $150 to get $100 USD there were few who could take advantage of the weather down south. Now with the dollar nearing parity, opportunity is knocking for Canadians.
I get asked at least a couple times a month if I know where a market exists in the US that a Canadian can go and buy a small 2 bedroom bungalow or condo even, someplace not dangerous, near some sort of metropolitan area, close to water or golf or parks or some sort of recreation. I have no idea where that market is.
I seen a small shack in Florida that was beachview and priced for $50k. If there was a town in Florida that had more property like that I would sure like to know where it is.
