Tweet and Retweet Study I set out to do a study about what Tweets posted on Twitter seem to get the most attention in the form of retweets. I was also wondering what Tweets seemed to help gain the most followers. The goal of the research was strictly for personal use so that I could refine my tweeting style to be more effective and to reach a wider audience. I wanted to improve the quality of my tweets. I did not employ any scientific methods or collect any empirical data, instead I relied upon actual observation.
The one thing that I did not count on, and that came as a complete shock to me, is that those who retweet twitter posts were more attractive than the average Twitter user. Seriously!
This discovery was totally unexpected and had nothing to do with my intentions. While looking at the list of people who follow my postings, you get a basic feel for who the demographic is, etc. Yes there was a wide variety of people. Old, young, male, female, and even some who had a profile which left their identity fairly obscured. When I looked more specifically at the ones who had retweeted my postings to Twitter, I noticed that the first 2 on my list were attractive ladies. Admittedly this is what caught my attention. The first 2 who had rewteeted one of my posts were from different countries even, but both were real Twitter users, both had active Twitter accounts, and in their photographs appeared to be attractive.
As I scrolled a bit more down the list of those who had retweeted me, there were more people, both male and female, and generally all appeared to be what I would consider to be good looking. The difference between those whom had retweeted my posts and those who were on my Twitter follower list but had never retweeted was significant and noticable. In an attempt to quantify this difference, I did some simple math and added up the indviduals for comparison purposes.
From the basic observation of my own personal and business Twitter accounts it was evident that those who retweeted were 69% more attractive.
So that is my conclusion. Take a look at your own Twitter following and see if your data agrees with mine. Do your attractive real followers retweet you? Are you attractive, and do you retweet?
